Dr. Z. (Zoltán) Lippényi

Researcher

Zoltán Lippényi is a senior researcher (associate professor/UHD) at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI). His research focuses on work and employment in advanced economies, with a particular focus on how institutional and organizational contexts -with a particular focus on policies and workforce demographics- shape labor outcomes and inequality. He currently leads the project “Beyond Boardrooms” (2022–2027), supported by an NWO VIDI grant (2021), which studies how corporate quotas affect the careers of men and women in Dutch workplaces, using linked employer-employee microdata. He represents the Netherlands in the Comparative Organizational Inequality Network, where he currently leads a cross-country comparative project on job-level earnings gaps between same- and different-sex partnered employees. He is a fellow of the Sustainable Cooperation (SCOOP) and Social Cohesion (SOCION) consortia, funded by NWO Gravity and Summit grants, and leads projects on the nexus of workforce diversity, diversity and inclusion policies, and individual labor outcomes.

Zoltán obtained his PhD in Sociology from Utrecht University (2009–2014), studying intergenerational occupational mobility. He subsequently held a postdoctoral position at Utrecht University, where he led the design of the European Sustainable Workforce Survey (2014–2018), followed by positions as Assistant (2018–2024) and Associate (2025–2026) Professor of Sociology at the University of Groningen.

He is a member of the NWO Social Sciences Advisory Table and co-chairs the Interuniversity Working Group on Social Inequality and Life Course (ISOL).
