The PROMISE research project was recently awarded funding in the Loneliness thematic programme of the National Science Agenda (NWA). The consortium consists of NIDI as main applicant, University of Groningen (RUG), Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) and the knowledge institutes Movisie and Pharos as co-applicants, and 25 collaboration partners (including welfare organizations, municipalities and network organizations). With a budget of 1 million euros, they will work over the next four years to gain more insight into the taboo surrounding loneliness among older migrants and the diversity in forms and causes of their loneliness. This new knowledge is translated into practical tools and handles to reach more lonely older migrants and to tackle their loneliness more effectively.
