NIDI 50 • Postponement of childbearing • VIDEO

28 May 2021

People are becoming parents at increasingly older ages. In 2019, Dutch women for the first time ever were 30 years old on average when becoming mothers. In this video, Daniël van Wijk, PhD researcher, talks about the reasons behind this postponement of childbearing. This is part of a research project on the links between employment insecurity and family formation and builds on a long tradition of research on changes in fertility patterns at NIDI.

In 2020 we celebrated our 50th anniversary as the national demographic institute of the Netherlands. Here we look back at 50 years of NIDI research and relate that to our current research. We present insights and landmarks from some of the studies that have been conducted in the past, combined with short videos of early career scholars at NIDI, presenting current research projects on similar topics.
