Frans van Poppel receives ESHD Massimo Livi Bacci Award 2022

Frans van Poppel, Honorary Fellow of NIDI, has received the prestigious Massimo Livi Bacci Award 2022 from the European Society of Historical Demography (ESHD).

The Massimo Livi Bacci Award has been established by the European Society of Historical Demography to recognize the life-time achievements of outstanding ESHD members.

Frans van Poppel was senior researcher at NIDI and Special full professor in Social Sciences at Utrecht University and in the History Department of Radboud University, Nijmegen. He is a former President of the European Society for Historical Demography. His research focuses on long-term developments in mortality, fertility and marriage and divorce. His current research projects deal with the role of medical knowledge in the mortality and fertility transition, and the life course of centenarians.
