Delaying retirement: Confronting responses of employees and employers

Public pension ages increase to deal with the consequences of population ageing. We study how employees and employers deal with the consequences of delayed retirement.

From the perspective of employees, we study how organizational policies, such as the relaxing of mandatory retirement ages, have affected their attitudes and behavior towards retirement. To do so, we analyze data on around 6,500 older workers working in over 1500 organizations from the NIDI Pension Panel Survey.

From the employers’ perspective, we study what age-related stereotypes and norms employers hold and how they have adapted their policies and practices to accommodate older workers. This is based on survey data from 1,300 Dutch employers.
