Nicole van der Gaag is a senior researcher at NIDI in the Ageing & Longevity group. She holds a M.Sc. in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Social Sciences of the University of Amsterdam. Since she joined NIDI in 1993, she has been working as researcher or coordinator on a variety of national and international research projects in the field of population projections, regional population developments, and demographic and migration statistics.
Her research activities are focused on macro-level analysis and population projections within a European context. She has broad experience in applying multi-state population models and multi-level population projection approaches modelling simultaneously regional, national and supranational populations. More recently, she developed a strong interest in the relationship between population dynamics and sustainability: how are demographic developments interlinked with the three pillars of sustainability: society, economy and environment?
