Koen Veldman is a PhD-candidate, studying the retirement preparations of immigrants in the Netherlands. For his research, he uses a combination of register- and survey data to understand how immigrants prepare for their retirement and what factors play a role in the higher poverty rates among older immigrants. Before working at NIDI, Koen obtained his research master in sociology at Utrecht University, where he analyzed large-scale Twitter data to understand the anti-immigrant sentiments among soccer supporters.
